Abstract
This research takes as its object the video production, in the field of visual Arts, in Portugal, from 1979 to 2019. It intends to trace the genealogy of the use of the medium and to identify the development of a practice that we will designate as Video Art, keeping in mind the challenges and the lack of consensus that still remains in this definition.It also aims to offer a reading of the history of the category in Portugal, freed from strict chronological constraints and favouring the relations between artists/institutions/agents underlying the practices and their dissemination. It is expected to survey and systematize the works, unveil authors considered seminal, as well as identify and contextualize recurring themes/typologies.
