João Lima is an artist and researcher doing a PhD at the University of Vigo (Pontevedra) in the PhD Programme in Contemporary Art Creation and Research. He has a master’s degree in Art and Multimedia from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (FBAUP) with research into photo-installation. Lima has taught photography at the Escola Superior Artística do Porto (ESAP) and at the International Centre of Photography (ICP) in New York and currently works at the FBAUP as a senior photography technician. Known in the art world as Limamil, he has been exploring the technological medium of photography since he was a teenager to develop his artistic work and as a privileged research tool. His most recent works, presented in the exhibition entitled Transfotografia #01, are also produced from a strong inspiration in the technique, history, and concepts of the photographic medium. He is currently undertaking an artistic residency organized by the Philosophical Media research project.
