Joana Rêgo was born in Porto in 1970. Plastic Artist – Painter. Assistant Professor at FBAUP- Department of Plastic Arts, Painting since 2022. Invited Assistant Professor at FBAUP from 2019 to 2022. Has been a Collaborating Member of i2ADS since March 2025. Holds a PhD from FBAUP in DAD (Doctorate in Art and Design), 2017 with the thesis “O que a palavra vê e a pintura diz – jogos de linguagem no processo criativo da pintura: uma investigação por projecto”. Research interests include the relationship between Image and word in painting / Visual arts. Has a Diploma of Advanced Studies from the Doctorate “Modes of Knowledge in Contemporary Artistic Practice”, 2006 from the University of Vigo — Faculty of Fine Arts of Pontevedra, Spain. Was a Fellow of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Luso-American Development Foundation in 1998 / 1999. Holds a Master’s degree in Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute, USA, 1999. Completed the Arts – Plastic Arts, Painting Course at FBAUP in 1995. Has held around 30 individual exhibitions in Portugal and abroad. She has participated in several collective exhibitions / projects in Portugal and abroad. Her work is represented in various private and institutional collections in Portugal and abroad.
