FCT opens the first edition of the FCT-Tenure Call to co-fund the hiring of up to 1000 (one thousand) PhD researchers, exclusively for permanent positions.
“FCT-Tenure” is a new FCT funding instrument designed to promote the hiring of PhDs exclusively for permanent positions. It is intended that the FCT-Tenure programme will be published every two years and that it will be a central instrument both in the professional stabilization of researchers and their lines of research, and in the creation of a more attractive and sustainable career horizon for researchers in the early stages of their careers.
The current edition of this program will co-finance up to 1,000 positions, with an additional 400 positions expected to be opened in the 2025 edition. The competition will be aimed at institutions of the National Science and Technology System (SNCT), allowing applications to be submitted for support for the opening of international competitions for career positions.
It will operate on a co-funding model and will allow doctoral graduates to be integrated into both the research (ECIC) and the teaching careers (ECDU, ECPDESP), assuming a limit of 4 hours per week of dedication to teaching in each career for the duration of the support.
The duration of this co-funding will last a maximum of 3 years for each position allocated to the teaching career and up to a maximum of 6 years for each position allocated to the research career, and will correspond to two thirds of the salary costs of each position in the first 3 years for both careers, and one third in the second three years in the case of hiring for the research career or equivalent.
The program will be funded by the State Budget and the PRR’s Science Plus Capacity Building Measure, consolidating the vision of the PRR as an instrument for the Country’s structural transformation.
