Translations, paradoxes and playful displacements – a perspective on artistic research

Room PS12, FBAUP

Mika Elo will present some cases of artistic research from his academic environment at Uniarts Helsinki accompanied by some theoretical ideas related to epistemology of artistic research. If ‘art’ is a name for processes and articulations that take their material-discursive embeddedness seriously and commit themselves to developing a heightened sensitivity towards their own mediality, then research that commits to art has tensional relation to presentation. In this talk, Elo will touch upon some aspects of this tension with the help of the notions of translation, paradox and displacement.
