Resumo
This project-based research PhD project focuses on the politics of image making and circulation, a development of an earlier Master’s thesis on the phenomenon of ”distortion” caused by reflective devices contrasted with the distortion coming from the imperfection of the human body in contemporary non-figurative artistic practices. It investigates deeper the topics of reflection, projection, distortion and furthermore examines what are the outcomes for contemporary art of incorporating technologies of image manipulation and hypermediation in artistic practice and as a promotional strategy and points out narcissistic postures that they enhance. The key for my approach is the notion of ”narcissism” as a philosophical and psychological term, more than a character trait and as a tool to conduct a research around the politics of the image. It proposes to define and critically examine narcissistic postures in contemporary art and contrast them with non-narcissistic postures through exhibitions and essays.
