The Discourse of Modernist Painting

This is a thesis about reading art images and used as conceptual apparatus a semiotic discourse. It is proposed to understand the painting produced in Brazil considering the discourse aesthetic as it is built in and the paintings. Divided the thesis in three steps. In the first presentation of the methodological support, the criteria and justification that guided the choice of the corpus. We attempted to outline, in Europe, the aesthetic design outlined by modern art, to then identify the Modernist route in Brazil from 1922 to 1955. The second step is the analysis in which seize the sense effects emanating from each of the paints and  the discourse aesthetic present in them. In the third step, the crossing of the works the systematization of each analysis outlined in the discourses of modernity.
