Paulo de Cantos: Teaching Machine Through Drawing

Abstract:

This article discusses the virtually unknown work “O Homem «Máquina»» from the Portuguese pedagogue Paulo de Cantos, a didactical
publication on the human body published in the thirties. An analysis of its drawings and its pedagogical use reveals an interesting and avantgarde approach to drawing in terms of information visualization unmatched in Portugal, bewildering in its original geometric radicalism and in placing drawing in the center of the educational game.
