O Lugares de Viagem, an artistic project commissioned by the artist and curator José Maia for the Mayan Biennial 2015, presents creators from different generations, artistic practices and geographies that have reflected, inscribed and dynamized the metropolitan area of ​​Oporto and the northern regions.
After a first moment dedicated to the work of Manoel de Oliveira and a second moment that presented national and international artists who gave an account of the imaginary of the North of the country inaugurates the 19 of September, at 16h, the third and last moment of the Places of Travel – Bienia da Maia 2015 with the collective exhibitions The Força do Real that will come (Maia Forum) and Never Coming to the End (Plaza Shopping Center), patents until 14 November.
The exhibitions have as a framework the potential of the spaces and the capacity of transformation and inscription of the places. In this context, creators will be invited with works in various fields related to the plastic arts, such as architects, graphic designers, musicians, authors of BD, illustrators, authors of artist books and creators for the space of the Web.
Starting from the artistic inscription of virtual spaces, Lugar de Viagem – Bienia da Maia 2015 will present the work of Silvestre Pestana, an artist who has developed part of his artistic practice through digital platforms, being a fundamental name in video art and concrete poetry , also emphasizing performance and experimentation with different materials.
If some artists, such as Maya Pinheiro, start identically from the power of real-time interaction in the web space, others will work – from drawing, photography, installation or book – spaces in their real dimension the architects Paulo Moreira, LIKEarchitects, Rui Neto or Depa – Department of Architecture), or, imaginary, either through the practice of BD (Marco Mendes, Nuno Sousa or Carlos Pinheiro), illustration (João Maio Pinto, César Figueiredo or Paulo Ansiães Monteiro) or the books of artists and author publications (KRAFT or Editora Pé de Mosca).
After the performance-installation of Pedro Tudela, Joclécio Azevedo or Vera Mota in Momento II, at this final moment of the Mayan Biennial 2015, music will have a place of prominence through the concert-performance of the renowned artist Carlos Zíngaro, who develops work in the area the BD and the plastic arts, works that will be identical in the exhibition. Also noteworthy for the concert-performance of Filipe Felizardo, who will also present graphic work and the edition of a new book; finally, there will be the concert of the new Brute project (by Ana Deus and Nicolas Tricot) that works on texts by several Portuguese poets.
After the exhibitions of the Laboratory of the Arts (Guimarães), Rua do Sol 172 (Porto), the Expedition (Porto) and the EyeEM Porto and In-Va-São (Porto) groups will be shown in the cycle A Capacity of an Object- Place, the exhibitions of three independent spaces / groups that marked the artistic practices in the north of the country during the last decade.
The alternative space of Porto, Extéril, will recreate during Momento III the three spaces that mark its programming – the project Poste – Video Arte, Extéril and 15 Minutes of Fame – featuring works by several artists. Also on September 19, the exhibition of the collective ARTEMOSFERAS | MAGNET. | ATELIERS MOMPILHER, which marked the artistic practice at the beginning of the last decade, by dynamizing cities such as Porto, Famalicão, Guimarães and Braga. The cycle ends on October 24, with the exhibition of Viana do Castelo collective, Hugo Soares and João Gigante, artists who stand out for their work as performers and will present a concert, a conversation-performance, a conversation with artistic spaces in Viana of the Castle and the presentation of the Parasite fanzine, which contemplates specific projects, being, in itself, a space for reflection.”
